APPRAISAL from Robert E. La Prad, NGJA, Gemologist/Appraiser in 1994: "One loose oval cabochon cut natural black opal measuring approximately 10.43 by 9.00 by by 3.25 mm, weighing exactly two carats twenty-seven point (2.27 cts.). The black opal has a black background with a low dome, very good proportions and finish. The opal has a full spectral play of color in a mosaic pattern with blocks of color set closely together in a full spectral array. The brightness level is considered as "brilliant" (see "Opal Identification and Value" by Paul Downing for description and terms and "Gemworld Pricing Guide" for description and value ranges).
